Whitetop Molasses Festival Was One Sweet Time
The overcast event hosted by the Mount Rogers Fire and Rescue was well attended with roast chicken dinners sold out sometime around 3 PM. Bands kept the crowd on their feet throughout the event.

About a dozen artists set up booths to sell their handiwork and crafts. The ten-yard long fire pit had been loaded with roasting chickens since about 11:30 and the coals were cooling by 3:00. Inside the community building, homemade molasses sold for $15 a quart.
The event closed with a terrific performance from Grayson Highlands School string band. Around 4:00 O'Clock, students brought guitars, banjos, mandolins and fiddles on the stage and kept the crowd clapping along to the old tunes. They were a very talented crew and the audience was reminded that these young folks are our future. And we couldn't be more proud.
