Halloween '25 Crowded With Lions, Tigers, and...
Halloween struck a festive note again this year around Carroll, Grayson and Galax. Main Street in Galax filled with pumpkins of all ages on Friday decked out as goblins, princesses, batmans, and... even a large cockroach. Twin T-Rex's wobbled side-by-side with heavy bags of candy. Super Heroes and Disney Princesses wondered through throngs dancing to spooky tunes like "The Monster Mash".

Several Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were spotted among the crowd. Some ninjas, ballerinas, and, of course, lions, tigers... but no bears. Oh my!

Families and neighbors who attended the event in Galax must be commended for how patient and well-mannered all the children were; a reflection of the good parents in this region. Moms, dads and kiddos lined up politely at each booth and business who opened their doors to share treats.

Galax, Independence, and Hillsville were a favorite destination for many across the region including visiting family members from far-off places. Many came from North Carolina to celebrate the holiday here.

Festivities carried into the night with trick-or-treaters visiting popular "haunts" along the way. Cars packed with kiddos piled out into yards everywhere knocking on neighbors' doors. Grown-ups could be heard coaching the littlest tykes to say, "trick-or-treat" before choosing a candy from cauldrons or bowls.

At the end of one of the most favorite holidays of the year, kiddos were corralled back into rides home. Piles of candy flooded kitchen tables or living room floors and grown-ups had to figure out, once again, how to get everyone settled down and tucked away for a good night sleep.
And this year... right before the very last porch light turned off to close out Halloween 2025, a message came across one group chat that said... "And to all, a good night!"
