Press Release from Chestnut Creek School of the Arts
World of Glass Exhibit at Chestnut Creek School of the Arts (Galax, Virginia)
Chestnut Creek School of the Arts announces plans to host a “World of Glass Exhibit” this Spring. This exhibit will showcase glasswork of both students and teachers celebrating the variety and talent of our community in all things glass. Work will include Stained Glass, Fused Glass, Flameworked Glass and multi-media pieces including but not limited to Metal and Wood.
This exhibit will be in place at the school’s main building in the 2nd floor hallway exhibit space located at 100 North Main Street from March 10-September 5, 2026. There will be an Opening Reception Friday, March 13 from 4-6pm.
Having started offering classes in Stained Glass upon the opening of CCSA in 2008, Frank Plichta, one of CCSA’s original Board Members and Treasurer taught classes, mentoring Ron and Linda Davis to take over teaching, who then trained Jonni McGuire who now teaches stained glass classes today. Ron and Linda moved on to explore fused glass, mentoring Barb Newton and Nancy Harris who now teach those classes. Ron and Linda continue teaching some fused glass but have broadened the capacity of glass even further by offering flameworking as another glass exploration.
This exhibit is designed to share and celebrate the work of everyone and anyone who has taken classes as CCSA and hope to inspire others to take advantage of this vibrant and exciting studio and all the really cool pieces being created.
“In response to the growing interest in glass, and the growing community around this medium, we began offering fused glass get-togethers the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 12-1:30pm followed by an Open Studio from 2-4pm” Shares Ron.
This group shares work they’ve been doing with one another, takes field trips, learns from each other’s experiments and enjoys developing their skills and interests among those like-minded.
“We’ve also developed the “Angel” project as part of the school’s ongoing community service projects. Fused Glass Angels are made then given to those who’ve lost a child, working closely with the Twin County Hospital’s Maternity Ward. This project has been so popular that it’s been extended to now include rainbows for those who’ve lost a pet”.
There is no cost to contribute, guests are shown how to do the project. “You won’t want to miss this reception” shares Chris Pollins, CCSA’s Executive Director. “The Glass Studio has created such a fun and inspired community. One inspired metal artist, now incorporating glass into his work, Fred Levine will be providing music during the reception. Accompanied by his Daughter, Amy Kassir and son-in-law Korey all who all play in several bands and play multiple instruments will play a variety of old time, bluegrass and swing as part of the opening.”
