Mount Rogers Fire & Rescue in Whitetop Complete Helipad Project

The helipad project in Whitetop has finally had all the finishing touches done.

On March 3, 2026 at 1430, Medflight did a practice run. The landing and take off went flawlessly.

Medflight was very pleased with the landing pad. The pad will accommodate the newer helicopter they have that is twice the size of the older ones without any issues or adjustments. Members learned to light the pad and received guidance from the helicopter crew.

Volunteers are needed—drivers, EMS providers, firefighters, or community supporters.

For commuters traveling into the community center area in Whitetop:

If you are coming into the community center and you see a helicopter coming in and/or the green lights on the landing zone, please stop and turn all your lights off till they land.

Once the helicopters are on the ground you can resume normal driving but please do not shine your headlights or parking lights at the helicopter.

Please maintain a safe distance of at least 100 feet away and follow directions from the responders on scene.

Big thank you to Wellsprings Foundation for the grant to get this landing pad built.
